The Intrepid Rain City Rollers!

As the weather gets nicer and the days get longer, warmer and dryer, there are more and more bicyclists on the roads. During May, many bicycle advocacy groups promote Bike to Work Month–an opportunity for all users to learn more about how to be safe, polite and legal on our busy, shared city streets and paths.

Friday, May 21 is Bike to Work Day, and Salal Credit Union is hosting three commute stations! We’ll have a table on the west side of Dexter, at 1515 Dexter Avenue North in the morning (7 am – 9 am). Stop by for refueling snacks and drinks, and take a flashing safety light with you. (we care for your physical AND your fiscal safety!) In the afternoon and after work, you’ll find additional Salal stations (with POPCORN!) at two of our branches: 115 15th Avenue East on Capitol Hill and at 310 Westlake Avenue North in Lake Union. All bikers are welcome!

Whether you’re driving, walking, jogging, cycling, roller blading or pogo sticking to wherever you’re going, please be aware of all the others around you. Make yourself visible in low light (flashing lights are great for that, hint hint), slow down when paths are heavily traveled, keep dogs on short leashes, and please signal your intention to pass someone. A little courtesy, respect and kindness can go a long way. As someone who crashed her bike rather spectacularly last November, I know there are some very kind and helpful folks out there on the trails!
