Teaming up for better health
Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010To help build healthier communities, Salal is teaming up with International Community Health Services (ICHS) and HealthPoint, two organizations committed to bringing low-cost health services to underserved populations in Seattle and King County.
Starting with our kick-off Capitol Hill Yard Sale and Barbeque on July 23, Salal will be holding fund-raising events at each of our branches, all summer long! You’ll be able to buy hot dogs (and veggie dogs), enjoy some delicious baked goods at bake sales, do some treasure hunting at our yard sale, make a donation and receive a big bandage to dedicate and stick on the wall of your branch and more! Every donation or purchase will go towards supporting the crucial missions of ICHS and HealthPoint.
ICHS began more than 35 years ago, providing much-needed health care services to local Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, as well as to other people in need. Originally housed in a storefront, the organization has grown and now occupies two modern facilities, one in the International District of Seattle and another in Holly Park. Both ICHS clinics provide medical and dental services, as well as an on-site pharmacy and laboratory. ICHS also offers Chinese Traditional Medicine and acupuncture at its International District site. As the first clinic in Washington to provide culturally-sensitive and multilingual care to diverse API communities, ICHS’ expertise is sought out by other health and social services providers seeking to improve their services for these populations.
HealthPoint provides medical and dental care, among other services, at twelve locations around King County. Services are offered to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. In addition to providing high-quality care for needy communities, HealthPoint is actively involved in training the next generation of health care professionals: they have partnered with Arizona’s A.T. Still University of Osteopathic Medicine to host a community health center based medical school in their clinics. Thanks to this cooperation, medical students are able to watch physicians at work in a community health clinic and gain an understanding of the vital mission of community based health care providers.
Salal is proud to be able to provide support to these organizations, and we know our members will be too. So when you see us roasting hot dogs or selling cookies at our branches, please consider making a purchase or donation towards healthier communities for all!
