Salal in the Community: Raising funds for healthcare
Salal CU strongly supports healthy communities and the organizations that provide healthcare services. This year, we’re partnering with two, very special organizations that supply critical health care to underserved populations in and around Puget Sound: International Community Health Services (ICHS) and HealthPoint.

ICHS and HealthPoint community clinics provide medical, dental and other health-related services to low-income individuals and families in our area. Everyone is served, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay.

But providing such important services requires money. Salal CU has held a number of money raising events for ICHS and HealthPoint, and as always, our members and staff have given generously. We’ve baked (and eaten!) brownies, flipped pancakes, sold hot dogs, popped popcorn, auctioned off event tickets, even given up our parking spaces, all in the name of fundraising. You may have noticed the giant bandages stuck to the walls of your branch—each bandage represents a contribution toward the goal of greater health for our communities.

Our fundraising efforts were very successful: we raised over $3,000, to be divided equally between ICHS and HealthPoint. Thank you for your generous and continuing support of healthcare providers in our area!

Community Care
As our members know, Salal Credit Union has a long history with and commitment to the local healthcare community. This year, we took that commitment even further: we have partnered with two healthcare providers to help them fund the crucial work they do in our communities.

If you’ve been in any of our branches this summer, you’ve no doubt noticed some lively fund-raising activity. All the money we’ve been raising will help International Community Health Services (ICHS) and HealthPoint continue to provide vital healthcare services to low-income families in King County.

ICHS began more than 35 years ago, providing much-needed health care services to local Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, as well as to other people in need. ICHS has two clinics providing medical and dental services, as well as an on-site pharmacy and laboratory. ICHS also offers Chinese Traditional Medicine and acupuncture at its International District site. As the first clinic in Washington to provide culturally-sensitive and multilingual care to diverse API communities, ICHS’ expertise is sought out by other health and social services providers seeking to improve their services for these populations.

HealthPoint provides medical and dental care, among other services, at twelve locations in King County. Services are offered to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. In addition to providing care for needy communities, HealthPoint is actively involved in training the next generation of health care professionals: they have partnered with Arizona’s A.T. Still University of Osteopathic Medicine to host a community health center based medical school in their clinics. Medical students are able to watch physicians at work in a community health clinic and gain an understanding of the vital mission of community based health care providers.

Salal CU is proud to support the missions of ICHS and HealthPoint, and we thank our members for their generosity!
