Salal Supports Washington Business Week
Thursday, March 24th, 2011Last night, March 23, was Salal CU’s Annual Meeting, and we were thrilled to have Manny as our guest speaker. Last summer, Manny was the first-ever recipient of Salal’s Washington Business Week Healthcare Pathway scholarship. Manny was chosen from a field of excellent candidates based on his GPA, his written answer to the question “Why do you want to pursue a career in the healthcare industry,” and recommendations from Career Advisors. When we heard him speak to a large group of total strangers with such charm, intelligence and ease, we knew we’d chosen well!
Washington Business Week (WBW) is an exceptional program for exceptional young people like Manny. Held every summer at university campuses across the state, WBW gives high school students the opportunity to sample life in the career fields of Healthcare, Business, Manufacturing and Energy. Professionals in these fields guide students through the programs, providing valuable assistance and real-world expertise.
The one-week program demands a lot from participants, students and Advisors alike; everyone gains valuable knowledge, whether they are embarking on a career or well established in one!
Salal CU has supported WBW for several years. Salal staff have acted as Career Advisors and Judges; the Credit Union has donated funds to allow low-income students to participate in the program; and in 2010, Salal launched its Healthcare Pathway scholarship.
We at Salal CU believe Washington Business Week is an excellent program, well worth every support we can provide. We believe our members will too.
Do you know a high schooler who might like to participate? The program is accepting applications now; please visit the Washington Business Week website for more information!
