Sharing Salal CU

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

We know our members appreciate our great financial products and enjoy our friendly, personal service: you tell us so, and we never get tired of hearing it! And of course, your kind words only inspire us to do more, and better, to serve our members.

If you have a friend, colleague or family member who you believe could also benefit from switching to Salal, we’d love to have them. In fact, we’d love it so much, if your friend sets up a checking account with direct deposit, we’ll give you both a “thank you!” in the form of $25 cash!*

It’s easy to qualify: you fill out the top of this form (referrer), and your friend fills out the bottom half. If your friend is approved for a checking account and receives at least one direct deposit in the 90 days following account opening, you’ll both get $25 deposited into your accounts. Simple!

Your friends will enjoy the same competitive rates on savings products and loans, the same low fees, the same warm greeting when they walk into their branch—and they’ll have you to thank for it. So do them (and yourself!) a favor, and encourage them to experience the benefits of membership with Salal CU!

*Some restrictions apply. All Salal accounts are subject to approval. See the Refer-a-Friend brochure for more details.

  1. I want to open a checking account for my grandson, age 16. Any comments?

  2. Hi, Mollie,

My first comment: you’ve come to the right place! We’re happy to have your grandson open a checking account!

Here are a few things to be aware of: because your grandson is younger than 18, an adult will have to accept responsibility for the account. That means if he overdraws the account and is unable to repay the overdraft, it’ll fall to the adult to make sure the account is brought back positive and all fees are paid. He will also be able to get a debit card, so a little training on what a debit card is, how it works, and the consequences of overdrawing an account are probably in order.

I would strongly suggest setting him up with some alerts in Online Banking. That way you and he can be notified by email when the balance of his account drops too low or if he makes a withdrawal or purchase that’s too substantial.

I think the fact that you’re asking these questions means your grandson has a very conscientious adult who will make sure he’s ready for the responsibility. Please drop by your Salal branch (with your grandson), and we’ll get you started!
