  1. This is FABULOUS news. Since dumping BofA and transferring our funds to Salal, we’ve been waiting for a new card so we can get rid of our high interest BofA credit card, too. Really excited about this news. Thanks….

  2. Could your VISA credit cards have a “chip” placed in them, making them usable at many places in Europe. This is a new development at VISA (my niece is head of the Division that is inaugurating this). Often when in Europe, I have been inconvenienced because I could not use a kiosk with a credit card but had to wait in line to deal with an agent (train or bus travel, for instance).

  3. Virginia,

So glad to hear this will work for you! We should have our line of Visa cards out soon, so stay tuned to this blog and to salalcu.org for more details!

  4. Ellen,

Our new Visa cards won’t have the computer chip technology at our launch, but we’re looking to add it in future. All cards will be required to have that technology soon, so we’re definitely watching the trends and researching our options.

My understanding (and I got this from reading Rick Steves) is that the best solution for now is to use your debit card at ATMs (which don’t require chip-and-PIN cards) and pay with cash when you can–you get the best exchange rates at ATMs. Just be careful when carrying cash! Stay tuned for more information on this topic, and thank you for a great question.

  5. Looking forward to signing up for your new card. I hope it will not be plagued with the incessant misleading recorded phone SPAM/SCAM messages from “Cardholder Services” saying to call them for an “urgent message about your credit card account. There is no problem with your account. To learn more about how to lower your rates, press 1. To unsubscribe from this service, press 3.”
I get one or more of these calls almost every time I access my account online. When I finally got fed up last month, I tried to unsubscribe by pressing 3, and got a 60 min. charge on my phone bill, that the phone company was unable to investigate or verify (but they did refund.) Despite this, I still get the calls, sometimes daily. And somehow they even got ahold of my cell phone number, which really upsets me! Cardmember Services, good riddance!

  6. Mr. Cooper,
I’m very sorry to hear about your troubles with this–I can certainly understand your frustration. We’re looking into it, and I’ll get back to you when I have more information.

The Salal Visa cards have been set up to make our cardholders’ lives easier; stay tuned for more details, and thank you so much for writing.
